Office and commercial cleaning jobs
Simply Maid offers office, shop, gym and shared commercial cleaning work to experienced cleaners, as independent contractors, in the same seven cities as our home cleaning. You add it to the services you offer, with the extra kit and experience it needs. It pays the same way as every job, from $45 an hour on the time allocated, weekly. Business bookings are newer and fewer than home cleans, so treat it as extra work rather than a full roster.

The work
What the work involves
Routine cleaning of ordinary business premises, to a checklist the business agrees when it books.
This is the guidance cleaners see when they choose these services in onboarding. Specialist work, such as machine floor restoration, exterior windows at height or carpet extraction, is a separate service, and carpet cleaning has its own requirements.
| Premises | Typical tasks | Not part of the job |
|---|---|---|
| Offices | Clear desk surfaces, meeting rooms, reception, bins, floors, staff kitchenettes and toilets. Leave papers and equipment in place. | No handling confidential documents, unplugging computers or cleaning inside IT equipment. |
| Shared commercial spaces | Reception, shared corridors, lifts, reachable touchpoints, bins, floors and shared amenities in ordinary business premises. | No clinical areas, hazardous waste, industrial machinery, work at height or specialist floor restoration. |
| Shops and retail | Customer areas, counters, accessible shelving, fitting rooms, bins, floors and reachable entry glass; staff areas where booked. | Do not move valuable stock or handle tills. High exterior windows and commercial kitchen degreasing need separate services. |
| Gyms and studios | Equipment touchpoints, reception, mirrors, bins, floors, changerooms, showers and toilets where booked. | Follow equipment instructions. No pools, saunas, bodily-fluid cleanup, sharps or equipment dismantling. |
Each job's offer includes its own premises checklist. Checked 12 October 2026.
Requirements
What you need
Experience cleaning that kind of premises, and the kit and habits of commercial cleaning on top of a home cleaner's kit.
- Experience in the premises you choose: offices (workstations, meeting rooms, staff amenities), shops (counters, displays, customer areas), commercial common areas worked to a site checklist, or gyms (equipment touchpoints, changerooms).
- Wet-floor warning signs, and gloves and protective equipment suited to the task.
- Separate, identifiable cloths and mop heads for toilets and for other areas.
- Chemical safety. Follow product labels, dilution and contact times, and know where the safety data sheets are.
- Site rules. Follow access, confidentiality, incident reporting and lock-up instructions.
- For gyms, a disinfectant compatible with the equipment and surfaces, applied for its stated contact time.
You also need everything a home clean needs: at least a year of professional cleaning experience, an ABN, photo ID, your own vacuum, mop, cloths and products, a reliable car and a smartphone.
Getting started
How to start
One application covers home and business work. You add office and commercial services as you set up.
- 01
Apply with your mobile and email
Standard home cleaning is part of every application. Choose Office & commercial in your services, then the kinds of premises you've cleaned.
- 02
Answer the experience and kit questions
Each kind of premises has its own. If you're not ready for one yet, say so and add it later.
- 03
Complete your checks and get approved
Identity, ABN, bank details, the standards quiz and the provider agreement. Approval is automatic once every check is complete.
- 04
Accept a business job
Business jobs are offered to every suitable cleaner nearby at once, and the first to accept gets the job. We confirm you for that kind of work before your first visit.
Hours & pay
Hours and pay
Business jobs pay like home cleans: your rate for the time allocated to the job, starting at $45 an hour, in the weekly pay run.
Each offer shows the premises checklist, the arrival window, the time allocated and your payment before you accept. Businesses choose an arrival window from what's available for their address, which can be before opening or after work; we don't offer overnight or 24-hour shifts. A business can book a one-off clean or a regular plan of one to four visits a week.
As a contractor you cover your own kit, products, fuel, tolls and parking, and your tax. How much cleaners get paid compares contractor pay with award wages.

Simply Maid pays contractors per job using the time allocated and their agreed rate. Check the actual offer, your commitments and your costs; the illustration does not calculate earnings or tax.

Be ready for this
How much work there is
Less than home cleaning, for now. Office and commercial cleaning is a newer service for us, and most of our work is still homes.
Because business jobs go to every suitable cleaner at once, being quick to accept matters, and keeping your availability current means you're offered the jobs that fit. If you want steady hours, build them on regular home cleans and treat business work as extra. We'd rather tell you that now than after you've bought wet-floor signs.
Can I do only office cleaning?
Not yet. Standard home cleaning is part of every application, and you add office and commercial work on top. Most of our jobs are homes.
Is it night work?
Sometimes early or after hours. Businesses choose an arrival window, which can be before opening or after work, but we don't offer overnight or 24-hour shifts.
Do I need commercial cleaning experience?
Yes, in the kind of premises you choose, plus at least a year of professional cleaning overall. If you've only cleaned homes, start there and add business work later.
Is the pay different from home cleaning?
No. You're paid your rate for the time allocated to the job, starting at $45 an hour, in the same weekly pay run.
Do I bring my own equipment?
Yes: your home cleaning kit plus wet-floor signs, gloves and separate cloths and mop heads for toilets. Gyms also need a compatible disinfectant.
Is it employment?
No. You work as an independent contractor under the provider agreement, with an ABN, and cover your own costs and tax.
